Many ancient cultures believed that Lapis Lazuli contained magical powers. In the Middle Ages, monks powdered the stone and kneaded it into dough with beeswax, resin and linseed oil, for use in illuminated manuscripts. Today, people around the world consider lapis lazuli to be a stone of awareness, able to impart knowledge and wisdom.  It is reputed to bring about harmony in relationships and to cleanse the mind bringing about self-acceptance.

Denim Lapis has more Quartz inclusions, thus the lighter color, a blue jean Blue.

    Campitos Turquoise

    Mined in Mexico

Campitos Turquoise was mined extensively in ancient times, with evidence of trade with Native American peoples. The Toltecs and Aztecs left much evidence of the importance of turquoise to these cultures.  Campitos is unique in several ways. It grows in clay as free-form nuggets, rather than as veins which is typical of many North American turquoises. Its color is said to most closely resemble Sleeping Beauty Turquoise, and ranges from a light to medium blue, occasionally with pyrite inclusions, giving it a bit of sparkle. A lovely, hard stone with beautiful color, Campitos is a favorite for jewelry artisans. The mine as we know it today has been producing since the 1980's.

HandMade in Santa Fe, NM since 1987.

Lightweight and colorful, these earrings are great for all day at work or for evenings with friends.

    1 ½" Long

Rosarita is a very rare material.

In the early 1940’s Gold Prices spiked.  As a result of the new high prices some Prospectors revisited the old gold mine areas in places such as Colorado, California, Alaska, etc.

These crusty codgers would build brick kilns over open pits and super-heat that gold-bearing ore that still litters the sites.  The return was small and the practice only lasted about 5 years.  The gold would sink to the bottom and the beautiful red gold slag would run off down the mountains, and solidify into boulders of Brilliant Red and Orange, much like Obsidian is formed in a volcanic reaction.

It is very rare, but we are lucky enough to have a nice collection.  The material is durable and readily polishes to a beautiful shine.  So far we have found no other information on it.  We feel very blessed to have such a lovely earth element to work with.  Rosarita is the only material available in such a true red color.  Some pieces have swirls of orange and these are even more rare.

Rosarita was named after a beach in Mexico because of the brilliant color.

HandMade in Santa Fe, NM since 1987.
