Zia Symbol
If you are, or someone you know are from New Mexico or just Love New Mexico, this is the perfect item. New Mexico’s distinctive insignia is the Zia Sun symbol, which originated with the Indians of the Zia Pueblo in Ancient times. Four is the sacred number of Zia and the figure is composed of a circle from which four points radiate. These points made up of four straight lines of varying length personify the number most often used by the Giver of all good gifts.
To the Zia Indian, the sacred number four is embodied in the earth, with its four directions, north, south, east, west; in the year, with its four seasons, summer, fall, winter, spring; in the day, with the morning, noon, evening and night; in line, with it’s four divisions, childhood, youth, manhood, and old age. Everything is bound together in a circle of life and love, without beginning, without end. Everything is found together that in this great brotherhood of all things, man has four sacred obligations: he must develop a strong body, a clear mind, a pure spirit and a devotion to the welfare of his people.
Rosarita is a very rare material.
In the early 1940’s Gold Prices spiked. As a result of the new high prices some Prospectors revisited the old gold mine areas in places such as Colorado, California, Alaska, etc.
These crusty codgers would build brick kilns over open pits and super-heat that gold-bearing ore that still litters the sites. The return was small and the practice only lasted about 5 years. The gold would sink to the bottom and the beautiful red gold slag would run off down the mountains, and solidify into boulders of Brilliant Red and Orange, much like Obsidian is formed in a volcanic reaction.
It is very rare, but we are lucky enough to have a nice collection. The material is durable and readily polishes to a beautiful shine. So far we have found no other information on it. We feel very blessed to have such a lovely earth element to work with. Rosarita is the only material available in such a true red color. Some pieces have swirls of orange and these are even more rare.
Rosarita was named after a beach in Mexico because of the brilliant color.
There is a matching pendant for sale on this site also.
